I Tacchi (Italian for
“heels”) d’Ogliastra are one of Sardinia wild, unique
natural beauties where you can still experience strong
feelings in an intact landscape of extraordinary value.
Here you can still find a number of both animal and
vegetable endangered species such as royal eagles,
mouflons, and century-old evergreen oaks.
The Tacchi are limestone
rocks which owe their name to their heel-looking shape.
Perda Liana is the best known example of them all.
Tacchi formations cover an area of about 28 sq. km. in
the municipalities of Ulassai, Osini, Gairo and
Ussassai.

Besides Mount Tisiddu,
the territory includes the following: Mount Arqueri,
Taccu Arba of Ussassai, Mount Lumburau, Taccu Anguil’e
Ferru and Peak Corongiu in Jerzu.
Perda Liana is Sardinia’s
most famous natural monument. It stands with its 1300 mt.
height and overlooking its tower-like shape is really
astonishing. The Sardinian poet Sebastiano Satta refers
to it as “the mountain red in wild carnations, black
eagles heading for the sun, high, divine, Gennargentu
shines in the purple girldled night”. The Tacchi
d’Ogliastra region displays imposing, Paleozoic, mostly
morphic rocks. In the area you can find wonderful
calcite and dolomite crystals. At the bottom of Mount
Tisiddu, a fragment of a fossil jawbone probably
belonging to a Picnodus fish has been found.
The area is also rich in
nuraghic complexes and there are 14 nuraghs in the area,
several of which have been deeply investigated: Serbissi
at 964 meters above sea level, Urceni, Is Cocorronis,
Mela, Sanu, Samuccu and Pranu.. In the area only 4
Giants’ Tombs have been found, which might lead to the
conclusion that either different burial rituals were
present or that other Giants’ Tombs were destroyed.
It is very difficult to
describe with words the emotions and feelings you will
experience in the Tacchi network! |
